The British Nightlife Industry is critical to the national economy. It is considered the fifth largest industry, and is the biggest employer of under-30s. The nightlife economy accounts for 5% of the UK’s GDP, and yet has been constantly left out to dry by the Government and legislators. Cost pressures rolling over from the pandemic, as well as reduced support and strict legislative changes, have crippled the industry.

The nightlife sector is uniquely adept at evolving to survive. However businesses are dissappearing at such a rate that accessing and experiencing nighttime activities is becoming increasingly rare and exclusive. The importance of live music, late-night venues, nightclubs and bars is clear to both grassroots artists and to those that truly value British culture.

With consumer spending consistently high, there is a proven appetite for late-night activity. The Government needs to get the nightlife sector onside and enable it to not just power hospitality, but also economic growth. Targeted support and strategic policy interventions will be essential.
